Patrick Muyaya, Minister of Information, Media and Spokesperson for Congolese Government, during an interview conducted by TV5 Monde says DRC awaits the Clarification of Ugandan government on the issues relating to Uganda’s ambiguous involvement in the face of the resurgence of insecurity in eastern DRC.
Relying on the UN experts’ report, Government spokesperson Muyaya called on the Ugandan authorities to clarify their position.
“Our services gave us elements which were corroborated with the report of the UN experts. But we have to look a little at the situationa internally in Uganda as it is discussed between the father and the son.” Muyaya Said
He added.”We raised the issues whether on a diplomatic or military level. We cannot understand, the Ugandan soldiers die alongside the Congolese soldiers in the East, and, on the other hand, Uganda is supporting the Rwandan rebels.”
Ugandan troops were part of a regional force deployed in November 2022 to monitor a ceasefire with the M23 and DRC.
“Since the resurgence of the M23 crisis, Uganda has not prevented the presence of M23 and Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) troops on its territory or passage through it,” the UN Security Council’s Group of Experts said in the report.
The UN group also said it had obtained evidence confirming active support for M23 by officials from the military and military intelligence, with M23 leaders, including the sanctioned Sultani Makenga, travelling to Uganda for meetings.
Uganda denied involvement, saying it is cooperating closely with the Congolese government forces.
Ultimately, Patrick Muyaya appreciated the efforts led by the Congolese Army, under the leadership of the Head of DRC President, Félix Tshisekedi.
